In contrast to the nihilistic and identity driven tendencies of post-internet art, aim’s “alch23” is inquisitive and a politically inflected questioning of the algorithm’s impact on culture. Self-image, gender, personality wobble in this extraordinary painting by aim. A cascade of gold coins, ingots and trinkets are threatened but the small neat gold bar that “The Iceman” seems to produce unpicks the convergence of scarcity and scavenging.Worthless representations of the prolonged performance activate social systems but suggest a passive psycho-emotional corporate speak may have aplomb but is not valid in itself. The individual approach and autonomy of “The Iceman’s” performance art flirt with the viewer,inviting him/her to enter the space of the possible and the fantastic.

There is a sense of physical wrestling -a painful projection of painted effort, as aim manipulates his rough magic. The system is “No system”, just a varying fluctuation of movement, abrupt and frenetic-a mysterious dance. aim’s brush work is delicate and reserved, almost shy-then suddenly aggressive. A certain inclination may guide the angles of the strokes, then palette knives force a fusion, profiling interlacing flows of melted ice, gorged full of striking pigment and always showing the resulting gold bar. aim draws forth an acquired instability that is maintained on the canvas, inducing vivid free-flowing images. This is seen in the almost child-like ‘alch22’ where “The Iceman” is clearly gaining the golden nugget.It’s as if “The iceman” is actually melting the block live on canvas” Kafe Smictiric[art critic]

Defined, yet reckless distribution of limited colours provoke an unexpected balance. The frontiers between the layers of structured colours forge a literal separation, at different times liquid, fluid, transparent, dense, viscous, murky, tidy,thick, thin,confused. In alch21 {see below}aim’s conscious choice of textures is essential to the result, causing a gestural energy to leap out from the surface. Once again, the gold manifests itself-supporting The Iceman or signalling the success of the transformative melting process. The gold bar is small in comparison to the ice-Block-perhaps an intentional comparison?
