“aim’s latest “cmpsn” series of paintings”

aim’s work explores the relationship between Pre-raphaelite tenets and UFO sightings. With influences as diverse as Camus and John Cage, new combinations are synthesised from both opaque and transparent meanings, including the theoretical limits of the zeitgeist. What starts out as hope soon becomes finessed into a tragedy of lust replaced by love, leaving a sense of chaos but the chance of a new synthesis. As apparent wavering replicas become reconfigured through diligent and critical practice, the viewer is left with a testament to the possibilities of our existence. aim’s work nods its head at the relationship between Critical theory and art brut. With influences as diverse as Caravaggio and Louis Soutter[I know aim doesn’t dress as well as the latter!], new variations are created from both orderly and random narrative. What starts out as hope soon becomes corrupted into a tragedy of futility, leaving only a sense of failing but always the possibility of the dawn of a new understanding. aim is an ‘optimistic’ painter. As spatial phenomena become frozen through diligent and diverse practice, the viewer is left with a hymn to the outposts of our future. aim’s work explores the relationship between the universality of myth and life as performance. With influences as diverse as Blake and Warhol, new tensions are generated from both traditional and modern narratives. What starts out as vision soon becomes corroded into a hegemony of futility, leaving only a sense of dread and the unlikelihood of a new beginning. But then the viewer notices a cheerful detail that causes a smile. aim’s work also explores the relationship between the body and urban spaces. With influences as diverse as Kierkegaard and Duchamp, new combinations are generated from both orderly and random dialogues. What starts out as hope soon becomes finessed into a dialectic of futility, leaving only a sense of dread and the unlikelihood of a new reality. As subtle replicas become clarified through emergent and critical practice, the viewer is left with an insight into the inaccuracies of our culture. You could say aim’s work explores the relationship between the Military-Industrial Complex and urban spaces. New synergies are manufactured from both mundane and transcendant meanings. The ephemeral nature of meaning tells a story in aim’s paintings. What starts out as triumph soon becomes finessed into a tragedy of power misused, but leaving the possibility of a dawn of a new synthesis. As shimmering replicas become distorted through emergent and academic practice, the viewer is left with an epitaph for the edges of our era. aim’s tongue-in-cheek angle is always manifest and this humour shines out in every single painting. The figure and face of ‘IM’ is always stoical and yet friendly. On an emotional level, I can only say I am moved to tears by aim’s most recent “cmpsn” series.
